Nature at its best

Just 2 hours from Sydney or 2.5 hours from Canberra, the Shoalhaven is a nature lover’s paradise. Discover stunning beaches, superb surf, and secluded picnic spots. Visit famous and beautiful areas such as Jervis Bay, Kangaroo Valley, and Booderee National Park. Try rock-climbing on world-famous sites near Nowra or kayak down the waters of the Kangaroo River. Immerse yourself in nature at its best.

Seven Mile Beach

15 minutes drive from the cottage, and a great place for a long beach walk.

Climb Nowra

Nowra is world famous for rock climbing – Climb Nowra can arrange your climbing adventure, no matter what your skill level.

Jervis Bay

The pristine waters of Jervis Bay are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, diving and other water sports. A number of businesses in Huskisson offer options for these, as well as dolphin and whale watching (in season).

Hyams Beach

Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay is our favourite place on the South Coast. The sand at Hyams has been rated as the whitest in the world. The water is perfect for swimming, especially during February/March, when the currents bring the warmer waters into the Bay. Starting at Hyams, you can walk to the southern point of the bay where the Naval College of Cresswell is situated. The walk to the end of the non-restricted beach area and back to the Hyams Beach carpark takes approximately 1 ¼ hours.

Booderee National Park

At the southern end of the bay, has always been a significant place for Koori people. Booderee has fabulous beaches and a range of activities, and includes the beautiful Botanic Gardens.

Information on other national parks in the area can be found here.

Kangaroo Valley

With its high sandstone escarpments and green river valley, Kangaroo Valley offers everything from rugged bush walks and river- based activities to scenic drives and idyllic picnic spots. Much of Kangaroo Valley falls within the boundaries of Morton National Park, one of the largest parks in NSW. The National Trust has listed the landscape and many of the village buildings for their scenic beauty and cultural significance.
